Offline test cell for flap motion tests of exterior mirrors.

This project was developed for an international automotive supplier in the field of vision systems. It is a special tester where already assembled modules (like exterior mirrors) can be tested. If the installation of a car exterior mirror is completed, the homogeneous and uniform folding of the mirrors is checked by a flap motion inspection.

In order to check the correct folding movement of the electrically adjustable exterior mirrors, the mirror is mounted on the tester in its original position. The current flow is recorded and evaluated by a FFT analysis (fast Fourier transformation, method of frequency analysis) with the MCD toolmonitor PicoScope. The measured current course provides information about the movement of both exterior mirrors.

The FFT analysis is a proven method to dismantle a signal into individual frequencies by using an algorithm. This can be used to determine which frequency share occurs often in a period. With a graphical representation, conclusions can be drawn about the course of the mirror movement during the flap motion test.
