MCD Elektronik test system secures the quality of innovative water and heating pumps

Birkenfeld, Germany, June 29, 2016: The measurement and testing specialist MCD Elektronik has developed a programming and test device for a leading german manufacturer of innovative domestic water and heating pumps. In the focus of this application: the drive technology behind the new energy saving pumps. A microcontroller placed on the stator board controls the performance of the pumps depending on the water temperature.

The test and measurement system has to fulfil several tasks at once. Therefore the MCD-experts initially developed a mechanical mount, where the stator board has to be manually inserted. An isolating transformer provides 230 VAC for the DUT. The needle bed contacts all relevant points on the board. First step ist the check of the power supply function. After this the microcontroller is programmed to check the function of the whole stator board. Therefore the resistance of windings (4-wire measurement), the power consumption and the functionality of the rotating field is measured. All measurement data is stored in an SQL database.

The safe and proper functionality of the mount of the DUT is highly relevant for the correct working of the system. MCD created a precise high-quality 3D model with an industrial printer. Due to this, possible sources of errors in the mount can be eliminated at an early stage which speeds up the process of the whole project.

The test procedures are controlled via the measurement software TestManager CE. The operator selects the actual device under test via touch screen out of various types of test devices. The test process starts automatically if all DUTs are inserted correctly and the adapter is closed. In case of a "Pass"-result it is displayed on a screen and the DUT is marked with a cutting point. In case of a "Fail"-result the single test steps are documented so you can directly see at which test step the error occurred. In other words sources of errors can be identified and tracked early and directly.

The TestManager CE is a MCD software solution to build applications for test systems. Areas of application are screening systems, board- and end-of-line tests as well as process control. The MCD TestManager can be customized especially for customers´ needs. Over 6.000 licenses are already in use in industrial environments.
