Always in motion: MCD is 30!

Specialist in measurement and test systems takes a leap into the future

Birkenfeld, May 15, 2013: The MCD Elektronik GmbH celebrates its 30th Anniversary on 29.06.2013 in Birkenfeld near Pforzheim. Three decades that are available for product innovation, customer loyalty and a steady business growth. MCD Elektronik is a specialist in complex measurement and testing technology. The range of products extends from simple fixtures for product validation to fully automated measurement systems that are integrated into production lines. What started out as a simple engineering office grew into a group of companies including established subsidiaries in the United States and Hungary. MCD now works with clients from over 35 countries worldwide. Its customers include companies in the automotive and aerospace industry as well as medicine, energy, and household appliance. In the past fiscal year MCD generated a turnover of 10 million euros. The managing director, Bruno Hörter, and his partner, Gerda Treiber are proud of the achievements of their 50-member team and look forward to the challenges of the future.

A look back reveals an extraordinary success story. In 1983, four young men developed an attenuator to control the high frequency level of transmission and test systems. This new step attenuator brought a new movement into the market and left the competition behind due to its durability and precision. The launch of the engineering office "MC Elektronik" had begun and the four founders commercially registered the company as MCD Elektronik GmbH. Head office was in Dobel, located in the northern Black Forest.

The hearts of the four young entrepreneurs always had a passion for customized measurement technology; the attenuator only kicked off the snowball effect. This effect triggered an avalanche of new orders enabling the company to serve increasing demands and grow like never before. As two of the founders MCD left, the company was henceforth conducted in Dobel by Siegfried Treiber. Bruno Hörter took over the company's management at the newly founded Birkenfeld headquarters.

In 2003, Siegfried Treiber passed away in a tragic accident. From that point on, the company was led by Bruno Hörter in Birkenfeld. In 2006, the group grew yet again adding its newest member MCF Technologie GmbH, in Ettlingen,  as a specialized service provider for the construction of high-technology test and measurement systems. In the same year MCD ventured to jump across the pond and founded its subsidiary MCD North America Inc. in the State of Michigan.

The next milestone took place in the industrial area Dammfeld, in Birkenfeld. After only eight months of construction, on November 2, 2011, MCD represented the most forward-looking building in the inter-municipal industrial park. The entire building complex was tailored to meet the needs of its employees and provide an atmosphere for an efficient workflow. Open sitting areas, spacious meeting rooms, a showroom and training facilities for internal and external workshops all make the "MCD center" a rather ideal workplace where innovative new ideas come to light. MCD’s connection to the world is ensured via a high-speed fiber optics data line. That enables the offices in the USA and Hungary to have direct access to the headquarter database.

The passionate cyclist Bruno Hörter already presented the planning phase of the new building under the slogan, Always on the move '. "I think we have taken some clientele away from the nearby fitness clubs," he says with a smurk on his face, as he speaks about another highlight of the MCD center. This statement is related to MCD’s own gym, which is available to the staff’s convenience. Marcel Bräuninger, a student at the State University of Karlsruhe, is thrilled by his employer: "As a student of a dual degree program bridging the gap between study and practice is often difficult. However, here at "MCD" I feel I am in great hands."

Authorized representative Petra Noske-Mahseredjian also sees the new site as an investment in future growth: "We believe that an attractive working environment is the best prerequisite for the development of highly skilled professionals."

MCD invested in industrial training since 2004. Currently, six young people are trained in four different professions. Students in their general education are given a chance by MCD to gain practical insight from the exciting world of electronics. "Especially girls, they lose touch of their shyness when it comes to technical professions," says Bruno Hörter about today’s project days. But the commitment of MCD does not end at its own corporate portal. MCD has been involved in the community and has been sponsoring the women's handball club in Birkenfeld for eleven years.

For the next stage Bruno Hörter has clear ideas: "We see great opportunities for us in the field of medical technology and renewable energy. We will expand our office in the U.S. and reinforce the activities in Asia but also in Central Europa. "Hörter is also proud that his two daughters, Julia and Verena, the second generation of the company, also work there. Everyone at MCD is looking forward to the next thirty years and as Konrad Adenauer once said, "Great past commits, it commits to striving for the same great future".
