Success with TOP 100: MCD Elektronik is one of the innovation leaders in 2018
Überlingen, 29. Juni 2018: For the 25th time, the TOP 100 competition selects the most innovative small and medium-sized companies in Germany. One of these innovative leaders this year is MCD Elektronik GmbH. This was the result of an analysis by the scientific director of TOP 100, Prof. Dr. Nikolaus Franke. As a mentor of TOP 100, Ranga Yogeshwar honors the company from Birkenfeld together with Franke and compamedia at the award ceremony in Ludwigsburg on 29 June 2018 as part of the 5th German SME Summit. In the independent selection process, the company with 70 employees was particularly convincing due to its innovative climate and success.
Every machine that contains electronic or mechatronic components has to be tested for safety and functionality before it leaves the factory. This is where the measurement systems of MCD Elektronik GmbH come into play. Since its establishment in 1983, the medium-sized company from Birkenfeld near Pforzheim with 70 employees developed into a technological leader in the field of complex mechatronic and fully automated testing systems. Countless companies around the world from the automotive, aviation, medicine, energy, and home appliance sectors rely on the testing systems of the middle-sized company based in Birkenfeld in south-west Germany. The latest example for the highly innovative power of the TOP 100 company is a proprietary testing system software that runs on many other manufacturers' machines, as well as MCD's own. Over 8.000 licenses have so far been sold in over 50 countries.
The company seeks to reach out to other interesting enterprises as a source to find fresh ideas. This was the case recently with a provider of augmented reality solutions. "Meetings like these expand the horizons of our developers", says Managing Director Bruno Hörter. The international exchange of new ideas is facilitated by a internal platform where staff of the three company locations in Birkenfeld, Shanghai and Budapest can post ideas and comment on those of their colleagues. Due to short, fast decision-making paths, good ideas are quickly translated into reality.
TOP 100: The Competition
Since 1993, compamedia has awarded the TOP 100 seal of approval for outstanding innovation and above-average innovational success to medium-sized companies. Since 2002, the scientific direction has been in the hands of Prof. Dr. med. Nikolaus Franke, the founder and director of the Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation of the Vienna University of Economics and Business. The science journalist Ranga Yogeshwar is a mentor of TOP 100. Project partners are the Fraunhofer Society for the Promotion of Applied Research and the German Association for Small and Medium-sized Businesses (Bundesverband mittelständische Wirtschaft, BVMW).
