"Test System Monitoring" as an "Industrie 4.0" interface

Birkenfeld, Germany, March 1, 2020 – It still will take some time until automated production lines and their processes will communicate perfectly and organize themselves amongst each other. With its "Test System Monitoring" software, the measurement and testing technology specialist MCD Elektronik now offers a further component for the "Smart Factory" relating to future "Industry 4.0" projects.

Interlinked test systems deliver data like status reports, test results or error details, which are collected and monitored by the MCD tool "Test System Monitoring". This software, shortly called "TSM", consists of three fundamental components: a TSM version of MCDs universal measurement software "TestManager CE", a "TSM Server" and a "MCD Communication Service". The already for years established and flexibly usable measurement software "TestManager CE" is a platform on each smart test system, where the "Test System Monitoring" tool is integrated and where the test processes run. The platform simultaneously acts as a central assembly point for measurement data, which is stored in a local data base.

"MCD Communication Service" is an interface between these local data bases and the "TSM Server" that polls and processes measurement data.

The "Test System Monitoring Server" is the heart of the tool that accesses measurement data of connected systems and optimizes them for monitoring. It also identifies the connection to available communication interfaces via TCP / IP protocols and connects that way to the test systems inside the "Smart Factory". Cyclic updates offer a "real time" query of stopping and error reasons. Collected statistics of test procedures, tested DUTs and their pass/fail counts are summarized to clear user interfaces by the web-based server. The results can be retrieved, controlled and analyzed via mobile or stationary devices in any location with server access. Further apps or software are not necessary for the use and control of the MCD software.

MCD Software Engineer Tim Retzlaff highlights the new software tool as following: "The "TSM" tool offers options to optimize intelligent factories comfortably and usefully. Idle times can be avoided and the efficiency of manufacturing processes or test systems can be raised by the permanent controlling and monitoring possibilities without being in the same building. A centralized collection and real time queries of data also leads to a reduction of test and analysis processes."
