MCD COMET: Operating comfort for NI TestStand and many more

Birkenfeld, Germany, June 15, 2020: MCD Elektronik, the specialist for complex mechatronic and fully automated test systems, satisfies a wish of a lot of users through its software application "Comet". This product integrates the test sequencer "Teststand" from the measurement and test technology manufacturer National Instruments, in short "NI", into its own broad world of hardware and software tools. Comet offers powerful and flexible user interfaces to Teststand and MCD tools and furthermore controls the start of the test sequences. The new product allows the handling of test technology without detailed knowledge about Teststand or a programming language. Oliver Gille from MCD's "Software Engineering" unit: "The Comet interface is optimized for the requirements of production areas and is manageable without programming skills. Furthermore, the creation of demanded operating assistance via Teststand is not possible without programming knowledge. Therefore, MCD decided to offer a more user-friendly solution with the Comet tool."

Comet does not only include pleasant user interfaces but also a powerful interface to the MCD Toolmonitors. Besides further benefits, the software connection allows universal interface communication as well as controlling of hardware components and visualization of measurement results. Oliver Gille: "With our Toolmonitors, test processes can be created hardwareindependent in Teststand. For example, only the commands the for adjustment of default voltage and maximum current have to be transmitted to regulate power supplies in Teststand. The output is activated via a corresponding Toolmonitor. The commands are identical, regardless which kind of power supply is used. The used device is selected and could be changed via the Toolmonitor without additional process adaptions in Teststand. Without MCD Toolmonitors, the hardware specific commands would have been sent to Teststand during the test process which means that they would also have to be adjusted in case of every hardware changes."

The first users of Comet appreciate the fact that current Teststand sequences are running without adjustments and Comet additionally is open to integration of NI-independent hardware or software components. The design of user interfaces is individually adaptable and own software tools can be opened directly into Comet via C#.

The integrated type and order management is the most important upgrade of Comet compared to the native use of Teststand. It facilitates a product exchange in the test area and the analysis of saved measurement data after the tests. Via data bases like Microsoft SQL or MySQL, the measurement data are stored.

Comet supports a variety of communication protocols like TCP/IP, UDP, RS232, LIN and CAN. Boundary Scan tests are easily possible as well as controlling of various robot types. PLC systems are also efficiently controlled and the whole test process is automatically monitored.

MCD Comet supports Teststand from version 2015. The free demo version permits a time-limited test of complete functionality. MCD partly or completely takes responsibility for the implementation of test procedures for its customers, if desired. Additional user information like tutorials or webinars will be available in the near future.
